KotOR remake release date speculation: Game is "alive and well"
Get ready, meatbags.
A long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away), the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was first announced.
And while there's still no whiff of a KotOR remake release date, we do at least know that the game is still in development.
It was back in 2021 that the project was first announced, with port-centric company Aspyr tasked with updating the classic BioWare game for a release on PS5 and PC.
However, the project reportedly hit problems, with rumblings suggesting that it had been re-homed at Saber Interactive instead of Aspyr.
Then, everything went quiet. Until now! IGN interviewed Matthew Karch, Saber Interactive CEO, and he confirmed that the KotOR remake is "alive and well".
Karch said: "It's clear and it's obvious that we're working on this. It's been in the press numerous times. What I will say is that the game is alive and well, and we're dedicated to making sure we exceed consumer expectations."
This a surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one. We shall watch this project's development with great interest. Read on for more key details!
When is the KotOR remake release date?
The KotOR remake release date has not been confirmed, but at least we now know that the project is still happening.
According to Bloomberg's sources, the game had originally been aiming for a late 2022 release, "but a more realistic target would now be 2025".
The Bloomberg report, which came to us in 2022 from trusted gaming journalist Jason Schreier, claimed that the game was "in serious trouble" with development put "on pause" and any potential release date "delayed indefinitely".
Following that report, it seems that the remake has moved from its original developers Aspyr over to Saber Interactive (an independent company that was, until relatively recently, part of the Embracer Group).
To throw our own speculation into the mix, we think that 2025 sounds far more likely than anything else right now!

What platforms can I get KotOR remake on?
The original KotOR was an Xbox exclusive, which makes it all the more jolting to learn that the KotOR remake will be a PlayStation 5 and PC exclusive - at least at first.
The KotOR remake was announced as a timed exclusive for PS5 and PC, and therefore should launch on other platforms after the time is up (which is normally 12 months).
We'd hope that Xbox players will be getting it at some point, then, and there is the possibility of a Nintendo Switch release down the line too. But for now, only PS5 and PC have been confirmed by official sources.

Can I pre-order KotOR remake?
Not yet! It's not possible to order the KotOR remake at this point in time.
Fingers crossed we'll be able to at some point but, at the time of writing, there are no pre-order links available.
As soon as that situation changes we will let you know right here. It might be wise not to hold your breath, as it good still be a while away.
KotOR remake story
Here is the official synopsis for the game, should you need your mind refreshed:
"KOTOR, which is part of Legends storytelling, dials the Star Wars clock back to over 4,000 years before the Skywalker saga.
"The Galactic Republic is at its height and has just been through a major war. Jedi are plentiful, but so are the Sith, and the evil Darth Malak leads a growing legion of dark warriors.
"Players will go on an epic adventure and, along the way, visit different worlds, amass a party of memorable beings, and uncover their own mysterious past."
It sounds very much like the KotOR remake will be sticking to the beats of the original, then! Bring on that epic twist, we say.
KotOR remake trailer
There certainly is a KotOR remake trailer, and here it is for you to watch right now! This could be the only promo material that we see for a very long time.
Oddly, the trailer vanished from its original accounts, but it can still be seen on third-party YouTube channels like IGN — take a look below!
